Authentic Nigerian Egusi Soup (Melon Seed Soup)
The Treasure Pop Taste
At The Treasure Pop, we believe the secret to a world-class Egusi lies in the “lumps.” We use a traditional “frying and curdling” technique to ensure the ground melon seeds develop a beautiful, nutty texture that isn’t just a sauce, but a hearty meal. Our Egusi is infused with the smoky depth of toasted stockfish and crayfish, balanced by the pungent, sweet aroma of fermented Iru (locust beans). Finished with a generous helping of fresh green vegetables, it is a vibrant, nutrient-dense soup that tastes exactly like a home-cooked Sunday dinner.
Quantity: Available in 2-Litre and 4-Litre large-format bowls. Note: Please notify us of any food allergies or specific protein preferences (e.g., if you’d like to add Assorted Meat or Fish) before placing your order.
Ingredients
The Base: Ground Melon Seeds (Egusi), Pure Palm Oil, and Fermented Locust Beans (Iru).
Vegetables: Fresh Spinach (or Bitterleaf upon request), Red Bell Peppers, and Onions.
Aromatics: Ground Crayfish, Stockfish, Scotch Bonnet, Seasoning Cubes, and Salt.
Storage & Reheating
Storage: Keep refrigerated (0–5°C) and consume within 48 hours. Egusi freezes very well; store in an airtight container for up to 1 month.
Reheating: For best results, thaw (if frozen) and heat gently in a pot on the stove over low heat. If the soup is too thick, add a tablespoon of water or stock. If using a microwave, heat for 3–5 minutes, stirring halfway through.
